Waldorf Hiton transport question, London

Just looking for opinions on this one.

It looks like it's an easy walk from the Covent Garden tube stop to the Waldorf Hilton, but if it were you, would you take a taxi from Victoria to the hotel, or change twice and take the tube from Victoria? I'll be landing at Gatwick in the morning and taking the Gatwick Express (tickets already purchased). I had toyed with the idea of blowing off the outbound portion of my express ticket and riding in the shuttle van with the other folks that I'll be semi-travelling with, but have nixed that and I'll take the express.

Realistically, which option makes more sense, both time wise and money wise??

Thanks so much, I also welcome other options!

If you have any amount of luggage, other than a small carryon, take a taxi. There are stairs and long corridoes to negotiate, and depending on when you arrive, it can get quite busy on the tube. Also you need to sort out ticket for the tube - to get Oyster card, travelcard or pay £4 per ride.

Thanks Alec! I'll have a checked bag, but a small one, easy enough to carry, so no problems there. I'm good with the tube tickets, been there done that, but never stayed at that particular hotel, and not all that familiar with the area! thanks again!

Although you can't tell from the Tube map, a street map of London shows that the Temple Tube station is just as close to the Waldorf Hilton as is the Covent Garden station. You could take either the Circle or District Line from Victoria to Temple and not have to make any connections.

Temple is exactly what the tube website journey planner tells you to do. journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk And Temple will likely be a smaller, quieter, less crowded station than Covent Garden at any given time.

Too bad you bought your Gatwick Express tix already, are they refundable? Because if you take the Southern trains, you can get off at Charing Cross station, which is fairly close to the Waldorf Hilton (a very short taxi ride).

Covent Garden makes no sense from Victoria. BTW - you'd only need to change once -- at Green Park. By why? I agree w/ the others - train to Vic., then circle/district to Temple, walk to hotel.

Brilliant! That's why I ask here! I got this (Take one stop to Green Park along the Victoria line, change to Piccadilly line and take 3 stops to Covent Garden.) I think from the hotel website (but I could be wrong!), and now that I look at it, it would only be one change, but I will def. just go to Temple!

Thanks again! Much appreciated.

Double check the closing times of Temple station. It's not open on weekends, I think.

Will do! I won't actually be there on a weekend, I land on a Monday and then taking the train to W. Yorks on Weds for the rest of my stay.
