WAHOO! An unexpected June trip to Paris!!!!

Hi all!

DH let me know last week that we are off to Paris as he is presenting at Pierre et Marie Curie University ( Jussieu) as part of a joint project of the Japanese and the United States called Global Precipation Measurement( he is an aerospace engineer). He will be representing the US.

ANYWAY.....

If he is off to Paris.. then I am off too!! Not passing up a trip to Paris.

Since we've been there a zillion times, I have no need for any advice on sights.

HOWEVER.. we have not visited since 3 years ago- too busy exploring the non Europe world, but always love to return to Paris.

Since we have not been in the last 3 years, I need the following:

1. Any new restaurants? It's just too cumbersome to list out all the restaurants we have been to so even if you recommend one we have tried, I will thank you. What we need:

Any location is fine, but we were thinking around the 5 and 6th as we are stayiing in the 6th ( Hotel Saint Peres)

We need:
2 restaurants for dinner that are moderate: can be traditional or trendy and hip: no matter. good food in pleasant atmosphere. Trying to keep that bill to $60-$80 ( business will pick up one of these nights). Even less $ to spend will be welcomed. We do drink wine and eat appetizers( usually one and sometimes we do skip it if we do feel like it) and have dessert( just one though to share always no matter where we are!! )

Then one night we will dine with one of my friends who is a tour guide, we always see her while in Paris, so she will choose on that night

And then 1 night we go more lux ( but around $200-$250). Was thinking Apicius, Arpege or Pierre Gagnaire ( been to Guy Savoy, Alain Ducasse, Joel Robucon, Senderens, etc) Any thoughts?

I am coming 2 days after DH so he can be free to just concentrate on work, so he will dine with colleagues for 2 nights and then we will dine together for 4.

Does anyone know of these two restaurants recently reviewed in CN:
Itineraires: 5 rue de Pontoise, in the 5th
Les Terrines de Gerard Vie, 97 du Cherchi Midi inthe 6th

2. Any new things happening in Paris, special exhibits for the time period June 15-21st.

3. Any cool new wine bars or old ones you love

4. We are staying at the Saint Peres Hotel in the 6th. We have to adhere to the allowance DH's has from his business. We have stayed right and left bank( usually 4* and 4L), apts, and with friends, but his business wants him in a hotel and near the University ( 5th), but I like St Germain better than the Latin Quarter and did my research and decided on Saint Peres. Any thoughts? We are booked already and pretty sold on it, just wanted some thoughts if you have been there. Please no need to recommend other hotels, just if you have been to the Saint Peres and wish to comment, it will be welcomed.

Anyway, right after this Paris trip then we are home for 3 days and off to Egypt, jordan and Israel!! Talk about packing!

I know, I know, this is a good problem to have, I feel very very fortunate.

Anyway, thoughts are appreciated on the above

Thanks a mil....

Just saw an advertisement in Paris Match for an Andy Warhol exhibit at the Grand Palais until July 13.

You are lucky! What great trips you have to look forward to.

Yes, I just saw this as well.

Thanks

I forgot to metnion that if giving me some dining ideas:

We do not care for food from Alsace, but love Basque, Provencal and foods from Brittany.

Prefer interesting, lively p[laces, but good neighborhood places hwere the food is good and the costs are reasonable for those 2 dinners that we need

Thanks a mil....

Lucky you! We were in Paris for a week at the end of March. This is from my trip report:

Itinéraires (Metro - Maubert Mutualité) I had two new restaurants on my list and was vacillating between them. I don’t know why I chose to have lunch on Thursday at Itinéraires but we were glad I did. It helped to hear that JulieVikmanis and her husband enjoyed it when we met them at the GTG. The staff was very warm and welcoming especially as I walked in gave our name and had a coughing fit. The waitress seated us and rushed me a glass of water. They had a printed menu and a blackboard with essential specials of the day. You could mix and match. We started with an asparagus salad with white and green asparagus which was good but didn’t hold a candle against a carpaccio of scallops with foie gras dotted with pomegranates on a bed of shredded celery root. We went with wines by the glass and they have some amazing wines. One was a Gewürztraminer which was golden in color and wonderful with the scallops and asparagus. The plats were a rabbit saddle with a mustard sauce, cabbage and bacon and a magret de canard with beets and raspberries. The combination of beets and raspberries was something we were a little leery of but it worked so well with duck that we will try it at home. The duck and the scallops were voted the best dishes of the week. Desserts were a strawberry soup which wasn’t really soupy and pears poached in different mediums-chocolate, wine and something else. I highly recommend this restaurant. We were one of the few Americans there and were treated very well. The pre fixe menu was 36€ per person.
