Not putting the umlaut sumbol over the u in Dürnstein isn't a grammar error, it's a spelling error.

I saw a lovely hotel in Regensburg but don't know the name of it--it is in the former bishop's garden, just behind the cathedral. If I can find the name I will post it, with dots if necessary.

jwmoff, the problem as I see it is giving advice on some places and deliberately making spelling errors because you coundn't care less. Can I trust some "experts" advice, who mabe can tell you everything about a town, but doesn't know how to spell it's name? It's sad.

Well, I'd give more credence to someone who is giving some specific suggestions and was has been in the area within a few days ago, than someone worried about spelling errors.

And you know it was "deliberate" how so?

But wait, sorry logos999, I must disregard your entire last post as I can't understand it b/c you mispelled "mabe" and thus are "deliberately making spelling errors because you coundn't(sic) care less." I find it very offensive and now can't trust any of your "expert" advice.

Get my drift

I don't get it. ;-). But I won't comment on the "deliberate" part.

basically your and my posts were unneeded and thus all just a waste of space, making it tougher for others. no need to get offended by a mispelling, and if you do, no need to share.

Wisely, I suspect, the OP has not returned to participate in the Great Umlaut Debate.

However, if he/she is still lurking, I can state that the Löwenherz is a fine property and well worth the pric€. It's somewhat less formal/stuffy than the Schloss Dürnstein property. The terrace overlooking the river is very nice.

I am searching all my old threads to insure that I have consistently typed MOCKBA rather than Moscow. I'd hate it if my failure to use proper Cyrillic text (where I can) misled other readers into thinking I was talking about a small town in Idaho.

Dear travellers!

Also a lovely place to stay in the Wachau, is the Gartenhotel & Weingut Pfeffel in Dürnstein, a combination of hotel and winery...

I agree with the last comment - we are at this hotel at this very moment and it is clean, new, friendly, good food and comparatively inexpensive - 75 Euro/night. We had - earlier in the evening - stipped in the "old village" and the price for a hotel was 250 Euro. That's a lot to pay for 1 kilometer difference in location. We walked to town/village and fell a lot richer, in the end.

We did have a car. If you stop at the railroad station, you would need to call these folks but they would gladly pick you up and bring you to their fine hotel.

Nice - all the way around.

I believe the above poster did not look very far for acomodations in Dürnstein.

Perhaps they stopped at Hotel Schloss Dürnstein.
many accomodations in Dürnstein from nice apartments to hotels

Pensions
Stockingerhof

www.stockingerhof.com

Stoger - nice pension run by local winzer -
good heuriger when open

clean nice on edge of the village about 25- 30 euro I think

Malerwinkel apartment
directly on the Danube - fantastic views from the windows - about 70-90 per night 2-4 persons

Romantik Hotel Richard Lowenherz-

double room with breakfast for about 175 euro
Fine hotel filled with antiques- Danube views from your room swimming pool and fine dining terrace- in the middle of the village with parking available.

Hotel Sanger Blondel

www.saengerblondel.at

double from 96 euro with breakfast

fine family run hotel - next to the Lowenherz with nice dining garden -

the hotels mentioned above are directly in the village- quiet location yet within 5 minutes walk of most all things.

The Pfeffel is a nice hotel- not new just renovavted and enlarged this year.
Some rooms with views.
But, a potential visitor should be aware that a busy roadway exists betweeen this hotel and the Danube.
In addition a regional elevated rail road line also runs immediately adjacent to the hotel and is also between it and the river .Several trains hourly including some early in the morning.
The hotel is isolated and some distance to the west of Dürnstein 1000 meters plus to the edge of the village
To walk - you share the way with bikes.
Driving or parking is not permitted in the village - thus driving just means saving some walk but you must park in parking lots just outside the village at a nominal fee.
Not very convenient in my opinion.

Those accomodations immediately in the village provide a nice experience.
