VRBO in Europe
Please share any positive/negative experiences with VRBO in Western Europe. I am planning a ten year anniversary trip and have an apartment in Amsterdam on hold. I'm a little paranoid since I have never rented with VRBO...I've read some comments about domestic rentals with VRBO and it sounds great. Just wanting to hear from someone who has used this service for a place in Europe. Thanks!

I've rented apartments twice, once on Paris and once in Hawaii. Both were absolutely fine.
Keep in mind however that VRBO stands for Vacation Rental By Owner so that means that each listing is different and the responsibility of the apartment owner, not the website.
Just make sure you see lots of photos and get all the details worked out up front with the owner.

Have used VRBO for 3 rentals 2 in Hawaii one in S. Carolina. All were wonderful. Totally what there advertisment represented. WE are now currently going to use them to rent in Paris in October. Just make sure you do your research.

Our experience renting an apartment in Paris far exceeded our best expectations. We would not hesitate taking that route again, providing we had the same fine cooperation and information from the owner. Being able to snack or cook when we wanted to, come and go at will while we struggled with jet lag, and never having to deal with hotel employees made our two-week stay in the 15th arr. a dream come true.

We used VRBO to rent an apt. in Paris and had a very good experience. However, reiterating what others said, each apt. is by a different owner so everyone can have a different experience. I too suggest you look at a lot of pictures, see how quickly they respond to your initial request, and are they helpful in answering questions. Also, agree with wliwl - post a request on this site to see if anyone has actually stayed at that apt.
