Anyone know anything about the 5 minute voluntary blackout in Germany and adjoining countries tonight? Sounds interesting.

I know Luzern turned off its lights for five minutes this morning in honour of energy savings day today.

The voluntary blackout movement has been circling the globe. I think that it started in Sydney, Australia, in March 2007. It was an hour blackout for awareness of climate change.

I know that Salt Lake city had a similar voluntary blackout (one hour) earlier this year. At that time they reported what other American cities were participating.

In Germany, some organizations and newspapers called for a voluntary blackout for 5 minutes. In many cities, public illumination was switched off. It should be a symbol for the global climate conference in Bali.
