Visiting the Aran Islands

Hello,
I will be traveling with my mother and two brothers to Ireland this June and have a day planned to visit the Aran Islands, Inis Mor specifically. We have read about many renting a bike to explore but there are varying levels of fitness among us. So my question is how easy or difficult is it to bike around the island? Is it easy enough that someone who doesn’t get much exercise can manage or is it better to just walk? We do have tickets for the first ferry over and the last ferry back (over night wasn’t an option for us unfortunately) is that enough to cover most the island if we did walk it?
We appreciate any suggestions or info thanks

Someone will probably move this to Europe but it isn't a super tiny island. I suppose someone could bike it that isn't physical. The climb to the fort is slippy if wet. Eat at the cafe at the bottom. It has won awards and is the best. There is a lady named Sarah that is in the crafts shops before you climb and she hand knits. I always buy from her. If you have all day just pace yourself. Not any huge hills. Watch for the seals. I would rather bike than walk. Grab some water from the spar store. ATM is there also.

thanks so much for the tips. I’ve read a few blog posts but they all said the same things and no one mentioned seals! Definitely look forward to visiting.

If you can find a way to view the 1934 black and white pseudo-documentary "Man of Aran" you will really get a feeling for the place. I say pseudo-documantary as much of it was staged.

AJPeabody, that house still stands. PS. I love you, Leap year and many others were filmed there also.

I've biked with a group from the main port to the fortress. It was a fun ride and not overly strenuous. If you're worried about it being too daunting, see if they have e-bikes to rent.
