Visiting Puglia May 2010

My husband and I will be in Puglia from May 14th to the 21st and would like on one day to take a boat tour from one of the towns on the Adriatic. Has anyone done this and can make a recommedation of a town that might offer this and if there is a contact. We are staying in Locorotondo. So far our plans for day trips include visiting Matera, training to Lecce on another day and visiting the towns in the Valle I'tria. Any thoughts on a good beach to relax on for a day? Are there any festivals happening during this period? On the day we head to Umbria we will go via Altamura and Castello de Monte....stopping overnight in Loreto Aprutino to break up the drive. We have never been to Puglia so any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.

Puglia's best beaches, as far as I remember, are on the "spur". Loreto Aprutino (though not in Puglia, but you certainly know that) is an excellent idea - that's a really great example of an Italian small town, I loved it.

Thank you Franco for your thoughts on Loreto Aprutino. I was seaching for a place to stay more on the coast for that one night and found the Castello Chiola and immmediatley knew we must stay there. With our last name being Castle is seemed so appropiate. Any suggestions for dinner that night in the town?

No, sorry, that's a place I've never been to.

Hi dedec,
some of the best beaches in Puglia are in the Gallipoli area. Also, in the north of Puglia in the Gargano area the sea is beautiful but a bit more rocky.
For things to do in the Lecce area please visit my blog http:/www.italycookingcourses.com. You'll find lots of pictures of the Gallipoli beaches.
hope this helps!
