Hi! I am late in seeing this thread and responding to it. We loved visiting Krakow and I think you can access my trip report and then if you have any questions, Ill be happy to answer them.

Wow, I haven’t returned to this thread in ages! Thank you all!

To Croatia_Guides - we will be spending a week each in Prague, Vienna and Budapest, with 5 nights in Krakow. I think we will be fine as we’re not going to be doing a “quick visit”.

virginiafish , I looked for your trip report but can’t find it. I did see a planning thread but that’s it.

I’m sorry if I didn’t mention your names to thank you but I appreciate all your suggestions.

So sorry, I apparently did not write a trip report for that one. Here is what I have from Krakow: Oct. 13 - 16 - Krakow
Hotel Grdek

Na Grdku 4, 31-028

Krakow, Poland

http://hotelgrodek.com

Oct. 15 - Auschwitz tour with Tomasz Cebulski, Polin Tours

Oct. 16 - Krakow/Kazimierz tour with Eliza

Oct. 16 - Klezmer concert in Isaac synagogue

The hotel was superb. Our day with Tomasz was beyond words to describe the meaning for us.The 5 hour walking tour with Eliza was excellent. We had a special Shabbat dinner at the Krakow JCC, of which we are now members! I will write more in detail soon about our experiences if you want.

Thanks so much, virginiafish!

I must admit that I continue to have very mixed feelings about visiting a camp. I do respect and appreciate why its so important for so many but, right now, I have little desire to experience the painful emotions.

Im very interested in the klezmer concert, though, and will deft check that out!

Very excited about the trip!

If you are considering driving, then I will mention the 'Eagles Nest ' series of castle ruins north of Krakow leading to Czestochowa. The abbey at Czestochowa is amazing, though maybe a bit far for a day trip.

Sounds wonderful, shelemm, though were not planning to rent a car at this point. Were definitely at the taking it slow and easy stage of travel!

The Klezmer concert was a one time event, but we went to 2 concerts while there and I think there are always cultural events happening.
Re: the visit to Auschwitz-it was part of a complete immersion into the history of the area, a synagogue thriving today near the camp, etc.

Thanks, virginiafish. I’ll definitely be looking for some of the cultural offerings, especially klezmer.
