Of course! The outdoor museum, Ballenberg, can take anything from a few hours to a full day (or more). And you can stop at the Giessbach Falls.
If the guidebooks with which you are working don't mention these very well known places, may I recommend that you get or consult other guidebooks? I found the Rough Guide and Michelin Green Guide particularly useful for Switzerland.

Wengen is a very nice place. To get to Brienz from there - train via Lauterbrunnen and Interlaken Ost. Journey will take you about an hour. Suggest you take a lake cruise to get to Brienz though because on a sunny day the water of the lake is turquoise blue. You can see the Giesbach Falls on the way. Then maybe go to Meiringen (where meringues are said to have been invented) and go to the Reichenbach Falls nearby and to the Aar Gorges.

Yes to boat ride - get boat behind Interlaken-Ost station where you arrive by train from Wengen - 1st cl tickets I believe let you sit on open-air front deck so may be worth the extra money. No need to reserve boat and probably not possible - just buy tickets at dock. Other have said the myriad of attractions around the lake - one more a steam train up the mountain behind Brienz - we trained up and walked down. Take train back from Meiringen or Brienz. If you have a Swiss Pass valid on boat and just flash when conductor comes around.
And yes Reichenbach Falls is a really neat atracdtion - a few kms from Meiringen - take funicular up to middle of falls to an observation ledge where the fictional Sherlock Holmes wrestled with Prof Moriarity pushing the latter over the edge to his alleged death. In any case the falls are an impressive cascade. From the falls area or Meiringen you can take the Grindelwald bus up a lovely valley and then down a lovely valley to Grindelwald for trains to Wengen via a change at Zweilutschenen - awesomely gorgeous way back. Meiringen has a tiny Sherlock Holmes Museum in an old English chapel. For lots on Lake Brienz and the area and trains, gondolas, etc check www.ricksteves.com and BETS-European Rail Experts.

Actually I would avoid using Rick Steves books as a reference if possible. They are not always accurate nor are the up to date. If you can get a copy of the latest edition of the Green Michelin Guide it will have more current information.
