Vis or Korcula?

Hi all! My husband and I (both mid-30's) are planning our first trip to Croatia in August. We will be there for 12 full days. We are both active (hiking, kayaking, swimming, etc.) and love the beach.

I'm having trouble choosing between Vis and Korcula - where we would spend 2 nights. We LOVE beaches, which is why this is the longest (and the most hard to plan!) part of the trip.

The beaches on both Vis and Korcula seem pretty spread out. Do they have inexpensive 2-seater scooter rentals (I would not be driving, so can't rent my own) and if so, is it easy to drive from beach to beach on these islands?

If it is helpful - to me, a beautiful beach is dramatic scenery (cliffs, etc.) and turquoise water. I'm not as concerned about the beach being pebble-free or a sandy beach, since I know those are harder to come by in Croatia.

Thanks so much for your help!

You might want to pose your specific questions about the islands on the TripAdvisor forums. However, neither the Fodors Croatia forum nor the TA forums for Croatia are as active as some other forums. You might want to do a word search on TA for previous responses about Vis and other island choices. Good luck. I’m going end of May and will post TR, but beaches are not a priority so can’t help you there.

You can rent a scooter on Vis or Korcula (I don't remember the cost, but frankly it won't break the bank). I rode on the back, and helmets were provided, which we wore(!). Roads are curvy, but traffic light (can't speak for August on that). Korcula is much bigger, and while there are great beaches there too (Pupnatska Luka was our favorite), we enjoyed Vis more because riding a scooter on a highway is not as fun as riding on little curvy roads. However, I would not make the longer trek to Vis for only two nights--if you can make it three, it is still my choice.
