villa rosa in positano

I have read that Villa Rosa in Positano is on the "up" side of the street, i.e., the view from the rooms will also be overlooking the street. Not having actually seen this myself, can anyone tell me if they have experienced noise or other negative effects due to this orientation to the street? Last time I was in Positano I stayed in hotel across the street, so the backs of the rooms faced the street and the windows of the rooms faced the view over roof tops only, so this was not a problem. Thank you for your help.

We stayed there in May of '01 and there was no problem with noise. The streets are so narrow, I can't imagine that upside or downside would make that much difference if there were noise.

Thanks for the reply. Can you tell me what impressions you have of this hotel, good or bad?

Happy New Year!

stayed there in october. had a very large triple room with an enormous terrace overlooking the town and sea. room nicely appointed, beautiful tile, very clean. don't remember any problem from street noise. the sea was rough when we were there, so we slept to the sound of waves breaking on shore. if you don't mind the 4,985 steps to the lobby, this was a wonderful hotel and i would stay there again.

It was a wonderful hotel, and I would heartily recommend it. We had breakfast (included) served each morning on our private patio with spectacular views of both sea and mountains. Truly idyllic! And it was such a bargain before the intro of the euro; we paid a bit less than $90 for a double in '01. I was amazed to see how high it had gone (something like 140 euro?) in a short time. And the dollar was strong then. But it's still great for the $$, considering that other places have probably risen in price, also.

You may have heard about the number of steps you need to climb to get to the reception area; we didn't count them, but there are a lot!
