As you can see, the original thread was posted more than three years ago.

I was wondering if anyone had any recent experience staying at Villa Romantica. It is located right outside the city wall - here are a couple of websites for anyone who is interested:

Nancy - we stayed there in 2002 and we were very happy with the room. For us, being outside the walls was a big advantage as we had a car; inside the walls it can get pretty crazy. That being said, we're staying inside the walls on our next visit. We felt we missed a lot of the medieval atmosphere not being in the heart of this cool city. We also really enjoyed a day trip out to the Devil's Bridge.

Hey, thank you 39Steps - That is good information.

I think I liked the idea of being outside the city walls because it would be more quiet at night.

Was it a long walk into the center of Lucca?

We stayed there in 2001 an found it very adequate. The walk into center city was longer than we liked. It is south of the walls about 500 meters, but the primary sights in town were a :20 walk. We ended up parking at a lot north of town and walking from there. I have a bad back.

Nancy - the walk was about 10 minutes. We didn't care for it very much, and I remember we took a cab back late at night after dinner. It probably is a little quieter at night outside the walls and the Villa Romantica has very nice rooms. I would still prefer to stay inside the walls.

Oops! I see Bob the Nav and I posted at about the same time - and after reading his post I think his description is more accurate.
