Villa rental - Praiano Italy

We are in Southern Italy May 2-11. Thanks to help in a separate thread - we settled on seeing the following areas: Naples, Pompeii, Vesuvius, Sorrento, Capri, Amalfi, Ravello, Praiano, Positano and maybe Paestum.

We are thinking about renting a villa in Praiano for a week of the stay and using it for a base to see the Amalfi coast. The rental company is Ville in Italia (villeinitalia.com) and the name of the unit is Portapenta. The price seems reasonable (altogther about $1000 usd for the week - everything included). Does anyone have any experience with this company - or with renting Villas in this area?

This is our first time considering something other than a hotel so any input is appreciated.

Thanks
Merri

Some of the best times in my life were spent when I rented portapenta. See some of my pics at pbase.com/mightyone.

I have a trip report on my stay at the apartment somewhere on fodors. I will see if I can find it.

It is really excellent. Now I am jealous!

Thank you so much for sharing your pictures. I'd love to see your trip report if you can find it. You've made me a lot more comfortable with finalizing the booking.

One question - did you rent the one bedroom or the two bedroom?

Thanks !!

I looked at the villa you are considering, and would really like to suggest an alternative. Take a look at the Casa del Sole at www.amalfi-coast-villas.com. We rented that villa in October 2006 and absolutely loved it. Rather than looking to the left or south down the coast, our villa looked to the right or towards Positano, the entire coast and Capri in the distance. We were up one long sloping block from the bus stops, and had great restaurants and grocery stores in both directions, all withing easy walking distance. We were also only one flight of stairs below street level. While the owners next door did not speak any English, they rounded up their brother and we "managed." Refund was promptly given for cleaning, and the electric meter explained. The owners were also never intrusive or a bother, except when I needed to "borrow" a roll of toilet paper.

The pictures do not do justice to the beauty of the views, the beautifully renovated newly tiled rooms and side porch, in addition to the front balcony. It also had a washer and dryer, and the side porch had great drying lines.

It was one of our best weeks anywhere, ever. FYI, we're 55 and 60 years old.

Thank you so much for your suggestion. I went out to the website and that villa is already booked for the time that we will be there.

Thanks for the response - I will save that link!
