Villa Dubrovnik vs. Excelsior Dubrovnik vs. Hilton Imperial Hotel
Which is the best 5 star hotel in Dubrovnik? Which is the most luxurious? I know Hilton Imperial is good because it's right next to the old town. I heard Excelsior has a nice beach by it. Villa Dubrovnik is furthest away from the Old Town yet it's the most expensive. Which is generally the nicest out of these 3?

After having a wonderful stay at Villa Dub BEFORE it was totally renovated, both my wife and I are big fans of the location, the ambience, etc. The walk to town(Ploce Gate)is an easy and pleasant one..the location is a quiet one, and it's oceanside natural concrete deck is outstanding..the view of the Old City is unobstructed. If you have a car, there is parking right there on the grounds.
I first visited Dub in 1980's when the only luxury choices were The Argentina and the Excelsior...we chose neither and stayed at a little hotel on the harbor which has since changed hands a few times. In '04, I was doing some further historical research in and around the old Dub and the manager of the Villa was most helpful, giving me some old 19th century pics and some good reference points. You'll see how the villa looked before the re-do in these pics which are scanned (pre-digital) Scroll to the end to see the Villa as it looked back then...or look at Old Yugoslavia, Sarajevo and Mostar by starting at the beginning.

The latest web page...they did a magnificent renovation job. I doubt you will fnd more luxurious lodginhgs in Dub...don't know what the rates are now, and I won't shock you by quoting the bargain=basement rates from our '04 stay. Enjoy your visit to Croatia.

Thanks everyone who posted! Yes, I'm sure I'm posting on the right website. Would Hotel More be a close second to Villa Dubrovnik? I think I'm giving up on the Hilton and Excelsior but is hotel More better than Villa Dubrovnik? Is it nice there? I know it's far from the town but I'm mainly now looking for relaxation and beach time so the Hilton would not be the best for that. (I'm staying there for 4 nights) Thanks again!
