Maxima, thanks for the clarification on the afternoon performance. I've made so many notes for this trip! I did email the theater and they were the ones to tell me it is sold out. The standing seats will be an added adventure to the experience of the Opera!

Just like you Maxima I also looked at the Vienna State Opera website and a range of tickets were available.

I think the OP is happy to go with standing room - hence the discussion re this.
Not sure why an email would say sold out but OP seems happy.

I also was confused by the website and thought there would be tickets available. From what I read, tickets would go on sale 2 months in advance so I emailed to double check and that is when I was told the show was sold out. On the website, there is a list of tickets levels and prices but no numbers indicating tickets available as there are on other events say in September. I plan to keep checking the website in hopes they were wrong. But, if standing room is the only way to see the show I will be happy just to go!
