Vienna in November

My boyfriend and I are thinking of spending 4 days in Vienna over Thanksgiving. However, he's concerned that winter will have already set in already and that it'll be quite cold and dark. I think the city could be quite lovely because it will already be in holiday mode. Any thoughts from experienced travelers?

We will be in Vienna over that weekend also. I have asked your question about Austria in general and received a lot of good info from the folks on this board. If you can find one of my postings - click on it and it will answer a lot of questions. Not being computer literate, I have to have two screen names...... The one I use most and the one that your information is under is "Shrink".

I was able to find some of your messages. It sounds like Vienna will be cold, but I'm delighted to hear that the Christmas markets will be open.

I have been twice to Salzburg. It's a very compact city and easy to walk. I stayed at the Hotel Garni Struber which is close to Nonneberg Abby. The hotel staff was very accomodating and I loved walking past the Abby each day as I went into town.

I believe the Salzburg Christmas market is in the courtyard of the Cathedral. A few years back there was an article in Travel & Leisure about it.

Hi. What do you know about Innsbruck? Is it worth a day out of a 9-day trip? We will have 2 days in Saltzberg, and two in Vienna, and a couple somewhere in Germany. Dont know about the rest. Still in planning stage, but I think we are going at a good time.

I haven't been to Innsbruck. Sorry I can't help.

But, two days is sufficient for Salzburg. I took a one day tour that brought me outside of the city - to some of the Sound of Music sites, but also to Fuschl Lac and a couple of other sites. The scenery alone would have made the tour great.
