Vienna hotel close to Austria center vienna
Hi, I am looking for a hotel that is either close to (within walking distance) to the above conference centre or a hotel that is close to a subway that allows me to reach the conference site easily.
Budget for hotel is average, hopefully, less than 100 euros.
Thanks
eteo

My favorite hotelpension in Vienna is Hotelpension Arenberg. It is within the Ring, but I don't know exactly where the conference center is. However, you have a 2-minute walk to the nearest U-Bahn (subway). It is a Best Western property but retains that great plush Vienna feel. There are only 22 rooms so intimate and they have homemade muslei for breakfast. It is a 4-star with shower/bathtub in room. You are about a 5-8 minute walk to Stephensplatz.
The other place is Hotel Drei Kronen. It is just outside the ring and a 8-10 minute walk to the Opera. The U-Bahn station is maybe 4 minute walk. It is near the University and a number of visiting professors stay there. It is also small and a 3-star with a great buffet breakfast. You get a shower but no bathtub here. A grocery store and an outdoor market are just across the street.

I assume you mean the Congrees Hall near the UN Center for your meeting.
a Crown Plaza( Holiday Inn) and a Country Inn and Suites are within a 5 minute walk of this Center.
They are on Wagramer Strasse, a main steet in that area.
The subway(U-bahn) in that area is U-1
Station Vienna Internatioal Center.
This offers quick access to the Center and thus any hotel near the U-1 can offer easy 10-15 minute travel to your conference.
The center city hotels will offer more dining and sightseeing possibilities, while the hotels mentioned above provide easy walking to the conference.

I've attended several conferences there and usually stayed right near St. Stephan's cathedral. It's a fairly short ride on the U-bahn. The Kaiserin Elisabeth is just a stone's throw from the St. Stephan's U-bahn stop. You don't say when you are planning to go, but it's very possible you could get a single at the KE in the 100 euro range.
There's not much around the convention center, although the Danube banks area near there is quite popular in the summer for hanging out.
FYI, if you take the subway to the center from central Vienna (it's actually above ground by that point), get off the train and walk to your right, then down the steps and to your right again.
Have you been to the convention center before? If not, be advised that it can be confusing to get around in--the design is not linear, there are a lot of dead end hallways, etc. Take some time the first day to get to know the layout.
I think you'd be happier staying in the center of Vienna and taking the u-bahn to the center.

Totally agree with last correspondent. Conference centre area is totally soulless and frankly unless you are desperate to stay within 5 minutes walk from there I would not think of staying out there. From Stephansplatz to Kaisermuhlen ubahn (for convention centre) takes about 6-8 minutes, so stick to town centre instead. Schwedensplatz is one stop closer than Stephansplatz , which is closest stop to Arenberg. I never checked Arenberg out. Near Scwdenplatz is also a Mercure Hotel - bit soulless as well, but may get for 100.

Good luck on hotels < 100E. If luck evades you, try Pension Suzanne (www.pension-suzanne.at) on Walfischgasse, it is perhaps a 2 minute walk from the opera house, and adjacent underground station. Quite central.
