Vienna Hilton Hotel
Has anyone stayed at this Hilton Hotel on
A1030 Wien, Austria? This is our first trip and was wondering if it is in a convient location. Also do they have a web site where I could find out more. Thanks for any and all help. We will be leaving tomorrow evening for 4 days. Can't wait. Looking forward to seeing Vienna. Thanks

The following is copied for Fodor's Vienna Hotel Index appearing on City.net's website for Vienna. I trust that since this is Fodor's forum, they won't object to my swiping this from another of their sources.
Hilton
Am Stadtpark
Vienna A-1030
Phone: 01/717-00-0 or 800/445-8667
Fax: 01/713-0691
Over AS2,700
Stadtpark Area
The public areas have been restyled for a more contemporary look, and the air-conditioned bedrooms are a cut above the usual Hilton standard in size and individuality of decor. The suites are particularly spacious; who could resist breakfast on a suite balcony with a 180-degree view of the city? The upper rooms are quietest; the no-smoking floor is so popular that you need to book at least 2-3 weeks in advance. The
airport bus terminal is part of the complex; the U3 and U4 subway lines,
trains, and buses stop at the terminal across the street; yet you're within
an easy walk of the city center. AE, DC, MC, V. 600 rooms. 2 restaurants, bar, café, sauna, health club, business services, parking.

Yes. We stayed in the Wien Hilton in 1995 as part of a packaged trip and "stopped in" to use its restrooms last year. It's an OK location, but not great. About 8 good-sized blocks from Stephensdome -- north end of the Karterstrasser, which is the large pedestrian shopping area; and about the same distance from the park on the Danube Canal where there is a flea market on weekends (worth going to) and from which you can take a short cruise. The rooms are nice and large; the breakfast is quite good; however, we ate one evening meal in the restaurant and did not think much of that meal. When we stopped in last year, I felt that the public areas had gone down somewhat -- the restroom was dirty enough that I later made a comment to Hilton about it. Last year we stayed in Hotel Opernring -- which is much better located and I consider a much better deal for the money -- but it IS correctly categorized as a *** hotel. Being there in May last year, we did not need AC, which the hotel did not have; the breakfast was OK; the room was quite large (larger than the Hilton) but somewhat dark and the windows were dirty. Another hotel with good location that should be as good quality as the Hilton at a better price is Hotel Romischer Kaiser. Both Romischer Kaiser and Opernring are associated with the Best Western Chain. If price is not a major consideration, both the Sacher and the Bristol have great locations. Enjoy you trip -- and if you are into ornate objects d’art -- do not miss the second floor of the Kunsthistorisches Museum -- I have a feeling that most people focus on the “great masters” on the third floor and miss or spend limited time with this really great collection. There is an airport bus which originates at the Wien Hilton -- so getting to the airport may be easy and cheap from there; but there is not much special about the hotel; I would not decline to stay there again, but neither would I go out of my way to do so; there are much better locations and as good quality for the same price -- unless you are getting a super great deal.

My recommendation in Vienna in the $200 category, give or take a few, is the Radisson SAS Palais on the Ring. It is made from 2 old "palaces", has excellent service, is a 5 minute walk from Stephansdom and a 10 minute walk from the Opera House.
