We will be 2 families with 3 teens. Can someone recommend an English speaking private tour guide who can give our group only a half day tour of Versailles?

Use the chateau's website. You can reserve guides directly from there.

The website lists a private tour for 1,000 Euros which you email to but it states on the website "due to the large number of applications received, it is not possible to give a positive response to the totality of them, even if they are sent within the due term."

There are many other guides that offer a 4-5 hour tour for less. Does anyone have any recommendations with one for Versailles?

When ever I'm looking for a private guide most anywhere (not often) my first stop is always toursbylocals.com and they do have links to guides that do Versailles.
