Versailles in November?

Does anyone know if Chateau Versailles is open in November?

Neither the English or French language websites (http://www.chateauversailles.fr/) show any calendar information for the months of November and December 2002, even though the information for October and January appears to be update.

Are there some planned renovations that would close the grounds for two months?

I was there two days ago, and could not believe how OVER crowded it was even in October... I suggest skipping the chateau itself, and spend more time on
the grounds!

I see what you mean, it doesnt' show what sights will be open in those months. But I'm sure they would have a message if the whole place was closed for two months? Under admission and times it states that the chateau will be open October-April from 9 am to 5:30pm except on Mondays and certain public holidays, so I assume they just haven't updated the calendar.

I believe they update monthly, but the gardens in November and December could be a bit brisk even if they are open... so if the chateau is crowded and the gardens aren't open or the weather is too cold for it, only IMHO I would skip Versailles all together...

Thanks for the responses.

I received an email response from a Mathilde Cassandro on the Versailles staff who confirmed the chateau and gardens will be open in November and December. The website was in error.

Hi, I waas there last 12/27/01 and it was not too crowded but it was cold. The grounds have a little tram that is enclosed that you ride from the chateau around the grounds. The grounds were not crowded at all because of the rain and cold. Lots to see and the weather was only a minimal impediment. We are returning this year.
Enjoy,
==Mike
