Verona - what not to miss?
Hello lovely people,
I am visiting Verona on Tuesday next week for 3 nights from the UK. So, basically 2 days. The weather looks like it should be warm but rainy. If the weather does permit I am hoping to visit Lake Garda by train one day ... but if not we will just laze around the town.
Is there anything we shouldn't miss? Restaurant? Wine bar? Church? View? Something else?
I am travelling with my daughter and staying at The Grand Hotel.
Many thanks,
Frances

Love Verona. The things that are most memorable to me (although not the highest rated tourist attractions) are:
Arche Scaligeri and
Castelvecchio both having to do with the Scaliger family who controlled Verona back in the day. The most important was Cangrande (that is, "Big Dog") della Scala, one of Dante's patrons. All over Verona you'll see symbols of a grinning dog running up a ladder, which symbolizes him.
Ponte Pietra--neat old bridge over the Adige.
The church of Santa Maria Organo. It has inlaid woodwork described by Vasari in the Renaissance as "the most beautiful in the world." It's a little bit out of the way, but worth a trip.
