Verona opera

I will be in Verona for 2 nights towards the end of July. I wonder: how good is the opera in the roman arena? Would love some feedback from anybody who did this recently.
Also: if anybody has a favourite restaurant in Verona, please let me know where to go and what to eat!!

This year, Verona is celebrating 150 years of staging operas in the Roman arena, and the program is being overseen by Placido Domingo, who will also be singing in some performances.

What level of appreciation do you have for opera? Are you concerned it will not be up to the standards you have enjoyed in La Scala or your own home city's opera house?

Have you looked at the Verona program for the two nights in July you will be there? The same cast does not sing every opera. They rotate. So looking at the program to find out who is singing what that night should tell you whether they are top notch enough for you.

If you don't know anything about opera and have never been to one, most tourists find the experience of going to the opera in Verona over the top thrilling.

No Stevewith, I am not concerned that it will not be 'top notch enough' for me. I just wanted general and honest feedback before I committed some of my euros and time to (what could possibly be) a tourist trap. Silly of me ...
I have now done my homework and booked the tickets. Thanks for feedback.
