Verneuil Hotel

I just saw an old post on this hotel. Has anyone stayed there recently? The place looks really cute with a great location. Any comments? Is it worth the price?

I stayed at the Verneuil just this past February. The hotel is cute, yes. It's a small hotel and it's decorated personally by the owner so it's unique. They were remodeling the lounge area so I didn't see it. As you enter the front door, reception is at a table/desk to the side and there is a small sitting area with a cabinet and a few tables with brochures and magazines on top of them. It's very cozy. Then off from the lobby are the stairs to the cellar breakfast room and another set of stairs going up to the elevator. Yes, that's correct, the elevator is a up a flight of stairs so be aware.
As I say it's a small hotel and a small building. I think there are four rooms to a floor-at least on my floor there were. My room was a standard double which was tiny but able to fit a small desk and chair. It had a window that overlooked the inner part of the building and I could see across to the next building-I think a set of flats.
I went with my aunt and booked her the room next to mine, a deluxe double. Now her room was spacious-not huge but certainly alot more room than mine. Her room overlooked rue de Verneuil which is a quiet street. Her bathroom had two bathrobes. My bathroom was a very nice size surprisingly and almost as large as my bedroom. It even had a bidet which my aunt did not have in her bathroom for some reason.
The continental buffet breakfast was included in the rate as a special and it was allright: fresh fruit salad, fresh orange juice, a variety of croissants, cheese, cereal, tea, coffee, hot chocolate. There's a small Asian man who serves the breakfast and he's very nice; I think he helps out with other things too.
The reception staff is all very friendly, warm, and helpful. Nazira and Isabelle work the day shifts and I believe the nighttime shift is done by Joseph. Yes, this hotel in my opinion is worth the price for the location and the general goodness of the hotel. But as far as the standard double room (and I cannot imagine how small a single room is!) is concerned it's kind of I guess on the high side for the room size.
If you reserve the deluxe double room you'll be set as everything else is great.

Thanks for the reply. It seems really nice, but it looks like location is everything.

My understanding is that the Verneuil is a sister hotel to the Therese on Rue Therese very close to Palais Royal in the first. Pictures show very similar quality and style. I would recommend the Therese with similar provisos of room size that francophile referred to. Smaller rooms are 135Euro, medium 160 and deluxe 200. The prices are all reasonable and do not get offered at discounts as they equate to the heavily discounted rooms of PAris hotels that offer rack rates of around 300 euro. Rue Therese is very quiet so you do not need to go for a courtyard room if you want to sleep. Service is very nice as per Verneuil comments- much better than most of the hotels I have stayed in in PAris recently (about 6 hotels). If you prefer the 1st arr. and being near the Louvre I would go for Therese ahead of Verneuil.

Verneuil is right on the border of St. Germain (6th) although it's location is actually in the 7th. I find it very convenient for the riverside, St. Germain, and the museums especially Musee d'Orsee which I think is a few blocks away actually.

I stayed at the Verneuil in February 2003, also in a double standard. When we checked in, we were shown our 2nd floor room (French 1st floor) and also a double standard on the 4th floor. They were both nice, but I liked the 2nd floor room facing the street (it seemed brighter) and I didn't want to depend on the elevator (very claustrophobic!!) Our room was quite small, but I don't think it was as quite as small as francophiles was, just based on the description. But of course, we used to live in NYC, so we were used to small living spaces. It was so beautiful to open the window which had a cast iron window box filled with herbs and flowers. The street is very quiet.

The sitting room was filled with books and magazines. We would take our tea there in the afternoons and read. It was a pleasant room. The staff was very helpful in reconfirming dinner reservations for us, and giving us directions when needed. Franco, I think Nazira was working there when we were there too. She and I were both 5 months pregnant!

The location is wonderful. I think it was about 3-4 blocks to the Musee d'Orsay, and like francophile stated, right on the border of the 6th arr. where we spent most of our time.

We ate breakfast at the hotel our first morning, but preferred walking 2 blocks to a cafe over the next few mornings. It was much better coffee at the cafe, and had much better people-watching ability. And there was a great bakery with pain au chocolate catacorner from the cafe. Sorry, I don't recall the name! We were a little annoyed at the Verneuil breakfast room because we only ordered one coffee and one tea but were charged for 2 full breakfasts.

One of my friends is staying at the Verneuil right now, and I will see him again next week. So I will ask him his opinion about the Verneuil. He is staying in the deluxe double room, and will be proposing to his girlfriend while in Paris!

Hi awbaker, I think the first std. double room you were offered on the 4th floor is the one I got. It was #401, my aunt's was #402. Maybe the street facing rooms are larger? I'm sure those may be brighter though.

I'm just wondering if you mentioned to Nazira or whomever was in charge then about the problem of the breakfast.
