Venice Vaporetto Question..

Can anyone tell me where I would purchase the vaporetto pass once I arrive in Venice? I leave in about 3 weeks and will be travelling alone, so I'm trying to have as much info as possible before I arrive..Read the various discussions about the usefulness of the pass, but since I'll be staying on Lido (costs much less!) I'll need it!

Thank you in advance, this forum has been invaluable!

You buy the pass at any vaporetto ticket booth. The prices are marked on a sign at the booth.

Keep in mind that the passes are not daily passes; they're for the exact term that you buy. For instance, if you buy a 24 hour pass, that pass is good for exactly 24 hours from the time you start using it, not for 1 day.

That may sound pretty obvious but if you buy the 72 hour pass you need to remember what time you first used the pass because it expires at the same exact time 3 days later. There's a hefty fine if you are caught with an invalid pass.

Have a great time in Venice; it's magical.

If you are arriving by train at SL, there is a large ticket booth for the vaparettos just before you would board one.

In addition to the plain Vaporetto passes, you can get some which allow you admittance to museums and public toilets all in one pass. There are several choices as to what you can include. I believe I got one from the train station once and another time got one through the site from which you can get the Italy Euroailpass. If I can remember the website which talks about the passes, I'll post it here.

Here's the site to the Venice Card. I just ordered one online and I'll pick it up at the Marco Polo airport. I bought the one that includes the museums and toilets. I love riding the boats and use them frequently. I figured I'd save money in the long run.

Thanks everyone! I'm arriving at Marco Polo, and plan to take the Alilaguna to Lido - I guess I'll buy my 3 day pass there, since I think I need to take a bus to my hotel.

Hi McK,

The Alilaguna stops at the Lido. Take the Red Line and save 10 min.
