Looking for a place to stay when traveling from Venice to Ravenna. Are any of the little towns good choices that would have more reasonable lodging han Venice?

Ferrara is a town often overlooked - walls, etc. i enjoyed it very much

Closer to Venice; Padova, or Chioggia.

Hi tidy, since you are going to Ravenna is there a reason you do not want to stay in Ravenna? Or are you trying to stay somewhere outside of Venice but want to do daytrips into Venice before you visit Ravenna? Are you travelling by train or car?

Give me a brief or long description of Chioggia - old town, etc. I've always wanted to go there from Venice or from Ravenna.

We will have a car. I am thinking that we will spend 1 night in Venice and the next day and then head towards Ravenna so that it will be less of a drive the next day. We were in Venice last year so 1 day is enough.

Venezia-Chioggia, by train from Venezia Mestre to Rovigo, and then a regional train to Chioggia.

Chioggia is some kind of 'Venice who never made it to the top', a small city in the lagoon, with canals.

If you've got a car already, just head out to the Padua motorway from Piazzale Roma, then almost immediately take the S309, following signs to Chioggia. I've tried to take the boat in the past, but it never seemed to be running, and I don't know whether you can hire a car at Chioggia anyway

Going via Chioggia is much shorter route than the motorway to Padua and Ferrara. BUT if it's during the summer, the road from Chioggia to Ravenna goes through a number of small, potentially congested, resorts and might actually take longer than the roundabout motorway route
