Venice to Malpensa - trip advice & hotel?
On our last day in Italy we will me traveling from Venice to Milan/Malpensa for a 10:30 am flight the next day. A few questions:
1. How long will it take to get from Venice to Malpensa Airport.
2. Interesting stops along the way?
3. 4 Seasons was booked due to a convention so I decided perhaps it was best to just stay at the airport hotel (First Hotel)- is this foolish?

It's been a long time since we did this, but two stops I recall are Sirmione and Bergamo. Bergamo probably more interesting. I wouldn't go into Milan proper. You'll have to get up at the crack of dawn (well, would be for me)to get to the airport which is about 45 min. from town. Many people on this forum like the Villa Malpensa or you could stay in the Como area. I'm sure there are lots of Fodorites out there with much more recent info. ( I assume you are driving.)

I'm from Bergamo. It takes about 3-4 hours
driving from Venice to Malpensa. Both Verona and Bergamo are along the highway.
I would leave early, spend 3-4 hours in Verona, then get to Bergamo in mid/late afternoon and spend the night there.
From Bergamo it's about 1hour to Malpensa with no traffic, so on a weekend you can leave Bergamo at 7am.
Beware the highway is EXTREMELY crowded on weekdays, so you'll have absolutely to be on the highway before 5:30 am, or you'll miss the flight.
Maybe a better option is to book a hotel near Malpensa and check in late (nothing to see there).
