Venice to Fuessen help

My brother (19) and I (20) are trying to figure out how to get from Venice to Fuessen, Germany. We want to spend a day or two around Neuschwanstein castle.

The only way I found is to break it up into two trips by train: Venice to Innsbruck, Innsbruck to Fuessen. (Over two days.) This seems sort of wasteful to me, since there isn't anything in particular we want to see in Innsbruck.

Also, after a few days in Fuessen we'd like to travel to Luzern. Any suggestions for that trip?

Why don't you reverse the order and go Venice to Luzern (a 7-hour trip with either 1 change or none) and then Luzern to Füssen (5 3/4 hours via Zürich, with 2 changes). There is also a direct train to Münich in 6 3/4 hours with no changes; you don't have to stop in Innsbruck at all. You can get to Münich in time to changge for a train to Füssen, or spend the night in Münich.

I did think about renting a car, but I couldn't find what the age restriction is. Where I live you have to be 25 to rent a car ... So I figured it would be the same in Europe. Also, can you rent a car in Italy and drop it off in Switzerland or Germany?

Interested in a budget flight Venice-Munich..be a lot easier if you could meet the checked luggage restrictions:
