Just wondering if anyone has taken the night train to rome- termini from venice?

Is it comfortable? and safe?

and can we hop on the train from mestre ? instead from S.L. in venice?

It is a kind of silly idea to my mind. The fastest direct train during the day would take about four hours. The night train leaves close to midnight, and stops and starts at every minuscule train station along the way, interrupting sleep, and takes three more hours to do so—not very restful.

Is it possible if we choose the "1st class seat?" - i try selecting it.. but the price is the same as of the 2nd class seat.

Also, if we were to buy the train tickets online. when the conductor comes by. can we just quote them the PNR number? or do we actually have to print out the tickets from our email to show them the proof.

I think this train is all one class. The big difference in cost is if you choose to have sleeping quarters versus spending the night in a seat. I have not taken this particular train because I would not get any sleep in these circumstances.

I believe all you need is the PNR to show the conductor.

The daytime trains now run every hour and only take 3 hours 45 minutes.

The night train is safe and comfortable in a sleeping car (the rail equivalent of a hotel), OK in a couchette (rails answer to a youth hostel) but not safe or comfortable in any class of sit up all night seat (the equivalent of sleeping in a shop doorway)

FrecciaArgento fast train for me this May left at 11 arrived B4 2PM fully rested

Do that SO worth it they leave hourly or cheap regional trains if budget twice as long

apparently i try purchasing the 2 bed compartment from venice to rome. there's no option to purchase that. Do you have any idea why?

and if i were to purchase a 3 bed compartment. is it possible for me and my husband to be in the same room? because i need i read somewhere that it only allows single sex -bed compartment? unless i book the whole berth?

If you don't book the whole sleeper, sleepers are single-sex.

Couchettes are mixed sex, unless you select 'ladies only' compartment.

Are you being caught be the poor transltaion of 'Double sleeper'?

They show 'Double seat compartment'. That does in fact mean a 2-bed sleeper, the same as the 3 bed but with the top bed folded away.

are there locks for couchettes?

Couchette compartments on this train apparently have four berths, so a couple would be sharing with up to two other people of either sex. The compartments can be locked from the inside. In a seat, you can be disturbed by other passengers joining and leaving the train.

Both couchettes and sleepers have an attendant on duty and secure locks on the doors.

The 'Comfort' 4-berth couchettes are quite nice, although give me a proper bed in a sleeper rather than a padded bunk with rug and pillow in a couchette, any day!

my question is,
1) i can choose either trains that leave from Venice SL or mestre?
2) and i have to be at the station at 6.27am at either station to board the train?
3) i suppose ROMA TE- means rome, termini?

1. Yes

2. If you're departing from Venice SL and the train leaves at 6:27 and you are only arriving at the station at that time you will miss the train. You must arrive earlier to find the track, get on the train, and locate your seats. I would get to the station at least 10 minutes before the train leaves.

3. Yes - The train arrives at Rome Termini.

The train leaves Venezia Santa Lucia at 0627 and Venezia Mestre at 0639. You need to be on board the train before 0627 if you're joining at Santa Lucia.
