Venice - Romance
My wife and I will be in Venice in early Oct. We would love to stay at a hotel with charm and serious atmosphere. We really want to experience a view of a canal - not necessarily the Grand Canal, but a canal nevertheless! We would love to open our window or door and be able to hear or see a passing gondola. Any help with this request would be really appreciated.
Grazie,
Malc

Hi
My wife and I went to Venice a few years back and we were thrilled when we got a hotel room with two big windows facing Canal Grande
Good luck with the hotel hunt. I have posted a little trip report with some pictures from our trip on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com/italy_venice.htm . Maybe you can find some useful info there.
Regards
Gard

Hello mpilling, you might like to check out the Hotel Cassiano which is in San Polo. Their website is http://sancassiano.it/
They have some rooms that overlook the Grand Canal, it is across the Grand Canal from the CaD'Oro. I love this hotel, the location and the rooms facing the Grand Canal. Best wishes.

Here are a couple we can recommend from experience.
Hotel American Dinesen- room w/canal view, in quiet Dorsoduro. Lovely view of Rio San Vio. Rooms are small but nicely appointed and helpful front desk. 3*

Savoia y Jolanda - room with lagoon view in more touristy San Marco area. Spectacular view. Jr. Suites are very nice. Helpful front desk. 4*

We are also staying at La Calcina in September so can't comment from personal experience yet. Love the Dorsoduro area and this place gets great reviews all the time. Very reasonable but can be difficult to find availabilty, especially for rooms with view of larger Guidecca canal. 3*

Lots of differing views here on value of "room with a view", personally we prefer it.
Have a great time.
