Venice-private water tax from airport to hotel

4 people. First trip. Arriving from NYC. Will be fatigued and excited. (Of course!) If we want a PRIVATE water taxi to our hotel (which is easily accessible by water taxi), do we just obtain this upon landing, or is it something we set up in advance? Many thanks.

You can arrange one in advance. If you want to pay extra you can actually arrange for a brief ride from the terminal to the dock which eliminates the walk between the two. Be aware that the terminal arrivals area can get very busy when more than a couple of flights arrive at the same time, especially if there are a couple of flights going through Customs/Immigration at the same time.

Your hotel can make the arrangement for you.

I would just walk down to the docks at Marco Polo.

If your hotel does not have a water door you will be let off at the nearest landing.

I don't know where your hotel is and when you are going there. But, if you arrive on a high tide day, the water taxi can only get to as far as it can duck under whichever bridges it has to pass through. It might be a choice between closer but wet vs. further but less wet.

This is what we did... and since it turned out that it took us about 1 1/2 hours or longer to get through the immigration line (I guess Fridays are particularly busy?) we're glad we did. Here's a link to the service we used.

The walk from the air terminal to the dock has changed a couple of years ago. There is now a covered moving walkway, accessed by the upper level of the terminal. Takes only a handful of minutes to get to the dock.
