They are very different because Santorini is more for relaxing and beach type activities. Venice is great sites and walking. There is no comparison in my mind-Venice.

Let me add that when I say beaches, I use that term loosely. If you are used to sand beaches in Mexico, Caribbean, even the US then don't expect beaches like that in Santorini.

Ashleey,

They are not comparable: while Santorini's ladscape, and natural settings are unique, Venice is the most intriguing place in the worls, in my opinion. Venice is romantic, melancholic, and offers an unique cultural experience. Santorini is pure nature.

I would make a lot of research, if I were you, to check what pleases you the most.

S

Ashley---If you want to base your decision only on whether you get to see Venice or Santorini, you will find an overwhelming number of people will recommend Venice, as will I. As already noted, the two are so different as not to be even comparable in any sensible way, yet lovely in their own way. I'd like to have the choice right now---I'd choose Venice even though I've been there a dozen times. Enjoy.

Ashley,
I've been to both. They're both COMPLETELY different. If you're looking for history, things to see and do, romance, uniqueness, etc. then Venice would clearly be my choice. If you're looking for something absolutely beautiful with the most amazing views, great food, and little boutiques everywhere, then Santorini would be my choice. In fact of all the places I've visited in my life (and trust me, that's a lot!) Santorini was far and away the most incredible place I've ever visited before.

Now let me say this last thing...Santorini is best experienced while staying at least a couple of nights...the sunset, the sunrise, the laid back days, the charming hotels, the views...it's best done with an overnight hotel stay. If you have a one day CRUISE stop, then without question, I'd pick Venice. You can enjoy more of the Venice experience in one day over Santorini. Venice has more to do and see and you'll have a more fulfilling one day experience in Venice than you would in Santorini. Save greece for a REAL european trip. (I feel a european cruise is TOTALLY missing the boat on the european experience. DON'T CHEAT YOURSELF NEXT TIME YOU GO TO EUROPE!!!) ...JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION.

Good luck,
Paul
