Venice or Rome?
I am actually going to Germany in April and am going thru Milan to Frankfurt. I chose to stop over a couple of days in Milan before flying on to Frankfurt. My question is, assuming getting to Milan Sunday morning early, what would be a suggestion..

a) take the train (3hrs) to Venice for 3 nights

or

b) take the train to Rome (5 hrs) for 3 nights

c) train to Florence

Never been to Italy. Allowing 'recovery time' I think that realistically I would have two full days. Open to all suggestions/ideas.

Thanks

Both are great destinations, but for a trip of 2 or 3 days, I'd recommend Venice. Rome, being a much larger city, really takes days and days to grasp and hit all the high spots, whereas Venice can be captured (somewhat) in 2-3. (Don't get me wrong, Venice is certainly worth more than 2-3 days, but can get a real feel for the city in that period of time.)
Also, the fact that it's a couple hours closer to Milan will make it a little less hectic for you.
Save Rome for a trip when you can spend more more time there.
No matter which one you choose, you're in for real treat.

Having spent a week or so in each city last year, I unequivically recommend Venizia. It is only the momst beautiful, sensual place in the world. La serenisimma! Am returning nex month for ten days. Go to Venizia and get lost in the labyrinth. You'll never forget it.
