Venice in a day....
We will arrive in Venice after a cruise. We will have from the time we disembark until the next day at 2pm when we fly out (we actually fly out at 455 but need to be at the airport by 2). 1.)Where should we stay and 2)how should we get to the airport and 3)is there anything we must do in the 24+ hours we are there??

1)Stay in Venice proper, anywhere you chose.
2) Getting to the airport depends on your hotel location and your budget. A private water taxi is usually fastest but also most expensive.
3) You should do whatever you've always dreamed of doing/seeing in Venice. There's no way to see everything in a day, so pick what most appeals to you. Roaming and getting "lost" is high on most people's agenda.

Do try to wander the not so touristy areas a bit if you can-my first visit to Venice was only for a day-St. Mark's craziness mostly and I really didn't like it. My next trip (begrudgingly)was for a whole week and it was AWESOME, so do try to get off the beaten path a bit. We stayed in Dosodouro at Ca Rezzonica and really enjoyed it.

Hi K,
Venice is a small town. You could stay anywhere.
What's your budget?
Your hotel will give you directions to the airport by public transportation. A water taxi is about 85E for the boat.
>is there anything we must do in the 24+ hours we are there??
Look up Venice under "Destinations".
Enjoy your day.

I second the suggestion to just wander around the less touristy areas of Venice. It is quiet and charming. You could spend a week in Venice and not see everything so relax and just take in the ambience of this wonderful city. Sit down and enjoy a glass of wine and watch the people walk by while you make your list of things you want to do when you come back. Enjoy this beautiful city.
