Venice Hotel Reccs in Jan.

We will be going to Venice in Jan for about a week. First trip there.

Hotel Budget is about 600E a day. Where to stay...would like a suite with a balcony and large bathroom / bathtub.

Don't know if you've done this yet (since it wasn't mentioned) but you may want to look at the "hotel" section of this website to get reviews of each hotel, you can do a search on the forums by putting the name of the hotels in the search field and I always go to www.tripadvisor.com to get up to the minute reviews on the hotels including articles etc.. that may feature the hotels in question. That may help narrow down the field a bit.

FYI, the average temperature in Venice in January is 37 degrees and humid, so you may not get to use that balcony very much...

I loved the Gritti Palace many years ago, when I could still afford it. The balconies are more ornamental than usable, but the view is magnificent. I don't know whether 600 Euro will stretch to a suite there.

Someone I know who has very high standards and can afford to indulge them always stays at the Monaco & Grand Canal.

The Danieli puts many people, including me, off.

A location on the Grand Canal side of the Piazza San Marco is, I think, preferable to one on the Riva degli Schiavoni, which is where the Londra is.

I reserved a Jr. Suite at the Londra Palace (without a balcony).

We are from Texas, so we welcome cold weather!

Thanks for all your suggestions and advice! If anyone has any experiences near the Londra, please chime in!

neil t us,

You may want to check the spelling and the completeness of the hotel names you have listed. That would definitely help you to find information when you do your search. For example, the correct name is "The Westin Europa and Regina" not 2 different hotels Europa and one called Regina. Also, I don't believe that Londra is the complete name for that hotel.

Here's some info about Europa and Regina from tripadvisor.com

Just got back from Italy and while in Venice we stayed at the Westin Europa and Regina. It was a great hotel on the Grand Canal and convenient to everything. Would highly recommend (although our dinner there one night was only satisfactory).
