Makes sense to me, Slow W. Yeah, the land bus is cheap--but not so much fun. You pay more for a water taxi, but you get a fun ride and a special experience as well as transportation that will take you as close as possible to your destination directly.
Of course, some people are on budgets that won't allow for a water taxi no matter how much fun and how effective it is as transportation.

Hi jeanne B - ? different bus? Perhaps the usual one was being repaired? Certainly the info on the slowtravel site explains the higher price of the ATVO bus by reference to the luggage compartment and the direct service. The orange ACTV buses don't have this facility, I believe.
rufus - i agree about the fun of the water taxi, but for one person arriving at night at a hotel without a water dock, it's just uneconomic. If our family plans to stay in Venice this summer some off, I'll be looking at it seriously, depending on where exactly we stay and the time we arrive. Where exactly is the dock at the airport?
