We’re looking at making a long stay in Venice, April and May 2014, so it would be apartment accommodation. Dorsoduro / Academe is our preference.

We have previously booked via VRBO, and it has been good. However, Airbnb lists a few places that would work for us. The problem is that many Airbnb places have a one month limit on rentals, and we’d prefer not to move half way through our visit.

Does anyone know if the one month limit on Airbnb listings is a limit imposed by Airbnb, or is it a limit imposed by the actual owner. Maybe it’s limited by the sort of rental guarantee that Airbnb offer.

Ask your question of the owner. You can contact Airbnb hosts without having to commit to book. We are Airbnb hosts, but I can't tell you if the one month limit is set by the owner of Airbnb.

The issue has never come up with us, as many/most of our guests are headed for the San Juan Islands, or Sydney B.C. for vacation, and often book only one night so they can catch an early ferry.

Sorry, I just looked at our own listing, and in the advanced section the portion of the Airbnb site, where we manage our listing, it has a couple of boxes in which you can enter the minimum and maximum nights allowed. The default value in the minimum is of course one night, while the default value for maximum is 30. Presumably the host can enter any number he wants, so my advice to contact the owner still seems the right approach.

Thanks for that advice. It’s the first enquiry I’ve launched through Air bnb, so I’m still finding my way. Moving half way through our stay in Venice might not be all that hard – a couple of trips with our stuff.

The main thing to assure a pleasurable stay in any rental property, be it Airbnb, VRBO, Homestay, etc., is to make sure the place has many glowing reviews, and to ask the owners as many questions as you feel need to be answered. If you don't get quick and satisfying responses, move on to look at other accommodations.

For example, I just read another thread on this Forum in which a family arrived at a place to find it was filled with so much mold they had to move. The fellow had family members with severe mold allergies, yet failed to ask the owner about this. I wouldn't stay in a place with green stiff on the walls, either, but the renter should/could have asked beforehand.
