Venice: best transportation from airport
#21
Another very subjective answer, the only time I've arrived in Venice by air was my first visit years ago. I'd bought an Alitalia package, air/hotel/water taxi included. Getting on the boat, crossing the water, going through the canals and arriving at the water steps near my hotel was the most perfectly romantic arrival in this most romantic of cities. I cannot imagine doing it any other way on a first-time arrival. Since then I've always arrived by train, but on each visit, when I've walked past the landing place of that first trip, I remember. So I suggest a water taxi, if only once, if budget will allow.

we had a late night arrival once [a mid evening arrival was made even later by airport delays] so we took a water taxi - not too bad for 4 of us.
it was pitch black and the windows were dirty so we couldn't see a thing.
MmeP - you almost make me think that next time we arrive in day light it would be worth taking the water taxi.

Arrived Venice airport on 4-13 at 3:30. Bought Alilaguna Orange line tic at first counter. No line. 10 minutes walk to dock. No line at tic window on dock. We were first stop, and it was easy to find our hotel.
We left Venice 4-16. Our train to Rome was at 2:35. 15 minute walk with bags on wheels was real easy; even for my 10 yr old daughter.
Guess it all depends where you are staying for logistics.
BTW, Murano is awesome.
