Venice - arrival by train from Germany
After traveling by car with another couple in Germany and Austria, my husband and I want to visit a new area/city. We're thinking of train travel to Venice from Munich. Is that doable? or will we have to change trains many times?

I took a night train from Munich to Venice in August 2002. We caught the train at 11pm or so and arrived in Venice the next morning around 7am. There were no train changes. We reserved a private sleeper car and actually got a pretty good night's sleep.

You don't have to make more than one thread asking the same question; people have responded on the first one. If it drops off the front page, just click on your name in any other thread to see all of your posts, or use the search box.

In addition to the night train, there are Eurocity trains leaving every two hours during the day from Munich for Italy. One goes directly to Venice; the others stop in Verona where you can catch another train to Venice. These trains all have a €29 Europa-Spezial fare to where you get off in Italy. That is, it is €29 to Venice on the direct train but you will have to pay, not very much, for the connection to Venice with the others. You have to book a few days in advance online, and the fare will show up on the far right hand side of the screen.
If you don't get it for the first trains you try, click "früher" or "später". It has to be an EC train.
