Scott, I have never heard of the Costella. Any more information? Help from other Venice visitors?

Scott, Okay, Castello I do know. Right there between San Marcos and Castello in the lagoon. Castello is mostly residential though.

The ships anchor just outside the central area and run tenders into a landing quite close to St Marks Square. I have been on two cruises which stayed overnight in Venice. It was great, you could get up have breakfast take the tender into the city and go back to the ship when you were too tired to walk any further. You will greatly enjoy coming into Venice by ship..it is magical

The cruise ships that bring day trippers into Venice is precisely what is causing it's demise! These are Hords of people ruining this beautiful treasure because they are too lazy to travel the real way and want everything handed to them on a silver platter. Venice is to be enjoyed during the day and night. It is a magical city, and how can you enjoy it in a couple of hours? Don't go to Venice via a cruise, you are helping destroy this wonderful city!

sad is sadly correct. the number of disgustingly gross cruise ships docked in venice is apalling.
