This is near Ponte di Rialto, in San Polo.

3. Ca'Angeli
I think everyone knows where this is, right on the Grand Canal with some rooms having views.


#1 is the least expensive and has ADSL confirmed, which seems fairly rare unless you go to some 3000 Euro/week property. Main concern is it seems really far removed compared to the other two which are right in the middle of everything.


#2 is pricey and not sure it has a full kitchen. It was renovated last year with some nice amenities. The guy said they will have high-speed put in in January.

#3 is a B&B, so no kitchen but obviously great location. Only thing is they only have doubles so it's more pricey than the other two, which are full apartments. Location, location, location.

Re #1 - a red flag for me would be the 4th floor with no mention of an elevator. That's 5 floors up, 5 floors down. We usually come back to our apt. a time or two during the days, so that's too much schlepping for me.

Re #2 - no mention of floor/elevator. And it looks to be in the duplex style, on two floors, and is the kitchen at the top of the stairs? It would be nice to see a floorplan as to where the beds are, living room is, bathroom, etc.

My thoughts only.

#1 is not that far from anything, in my opinion.

Yeah I always look for places with lifts, for the luggage if nothing else, and all the walking around you tend to do.

Yeah Venice appears relatively compact. The distance between Fondamente Nove and Rialto is probably less than half a mile.

Just a question of how close you want to be to where everything is. In Florence, I was right on the Piazza della Signoria but couldn't find things like supermarkets. Often found going all the way out to San Lorenzo, a pretty good hike.

In Florence, there's a good supermarket near Accademia.

In Venice, I can think of two supermarkets that aren't too far from #1.

No elevator in Ca'Attico and no air conditioning.

Not suppose to be hot in May.

Is this a residential area with markets and so on? Is it a long hike to the Grand Canal and the Accademia bridge?

I don't know that Campo but the Zattere is where the popular La Calcina hotel is located and it is a more residential area than say Rialto. I think there's a supermarket right near there. The Zattere is also one of the stops for the alilaguna (water bus) from the airport. It's not on the Grand Canal, but near the Guidecca canal between Venice and the island of Guidecca where the Cipriani hotel is located.

Trying to find a photo of Zattere for you, I came across another 2 bedroom apt. in the area (prob. much too expensive) but if you scroll down you'll see a picture of "the zattere"

La Calcina has apts. that they rent too.

What is ADSL? Do you mean high speed internet?

ADSL is Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Loop, the most common broadband or highspeed Internet connections in the world.

Venice is suppose to have a number of homes with ISDN, an earlier standard which will damage most modern computer ethernet or modem ports.

So you have to be careful of how some of these apts. advertise Internet connections. Some are referring to dial-up, whcih is not only slow but more expensive because it's metered.

OK, it's nice that it's near the airport taxi stop but I guess you have to go farther if you want to get to Murano or other day trips to Verona.

Have to think about it.

The Accademia apartment is at most a 2 minute walk to the Accademia Bridge, which is about a 10 minute walk to San Marco. There is a large supermarket at one end of the Zattere, about 10 minutes from the apartment. It's a great location.

OK, apartment options are drying up.

Considering two B&Bs, both off the San Silvestro vaporetto stop:

1. Ca' Angeli

2. Corte 1321

Both got 5-star reviews on Travel Advisor, although Ca'Angeli has way more reviews.

Ca'Angeli is along the canal and would be about 100 euro more (BTW, we're talking about 1100-1200 euros for a B&B in mid-May).

One thing making me pause is that although Ca'Angeli is on the waterfront, it seems a longer jaunt from the vaporetto stop to the B&B than Corte 1321, which is inland. This is going off maps on their web sites.

Concern is lugging bags (which have wheels) that distance. The Ca'Angeli shows a path from the stop that is like an Omega (upside down U-turn) but they say it's only a 2-minute walk from the stop.

How bad is it to navigate the walkways and canals in Venice? I imagine cobblestone paths and not necessarily level foot bridges and such.

Take the Zattere one. Great location with Billa mkt and restaurants and transport and easy walk to all. Beautiful pics too...

Unfortunately, Zattere is no longer available.

I replied back one week after he emailed me and he never replied back.

So I emailed him again and he said it's no longer available.

Why don't you post the links to the two B&Bs you're now considering? Without seeing those websites, I would point out that 100 E. more per week really isn't that much more on a per diem basis.

Thanks for posting the websites. I'd take the Ca' Angeli, hands down! It looks very nice, and you can't beat the location on the Grand Canal. Both really are only a 2-3 minute walk from the vaporetto. Good luck with your decision. I'm sure you'll be happy with either choice.
