Venice and the Veneto - Spring 2012
DH gets to choose our next trip as I picked this year's Danube river cruise. He wants to go back to Italy, not that I don't
; his idea is to revisit Venice, then spend time exploring the Veneto, that would be the new part. If we can get airline reservations, we would ideally like to go in early May, but it could be fall. We would probably have two weeks. I have played around a little, but want to ask the experts how you might structure the time frame. He wants to see Verona, we both want to explore the Prosecco Road. Thoughts?

Just about Verona, please don't give it short day trip treatment as so many do. It is a wonderful and photogenic city to explore that deserves at least a few days. If you overnight in Verona, be sure to stay within the historic area walls. Have you seen the movie "Letters to Juliet?" Part of it is shot in Verona and much of the rest in Tuscany. It is a sweet movie.

I was thinking one or two nights in Verona, agree with you about the day trip thing. Yes, I watched the movie, just to see Verona, and actually agree with you, it was rather sweet. Verona was on the list pre-movie.

Make sure you visit Vicenza with it's beautiful architecture,
Padua and it;s ascrovegni Chapel(Giotto), and Bassano de Grappa, set in the foothills with an alpine feel.Bassano's bridge over the Brenta River is designed by Palladio.
The Palladian villas set around the Veneto are real treasures.

social - I put "veneto" into the search engine and came up with this:
http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...nd-vicenza.cfm
there are some other threads that look as if they might be relevant as well.
you could also put in "Dolomites".
depending on flight times, do you want to "do" venice at the beginning or end of your trip?

Thanks Ann. I think when we 'do' Venice will depend on when we get flights, but it would be either at the end or beginning so that we could arrange the car rental, would not put it in the middle. I am going to do the search for threads, but as I was thinking about it this morning, was really just curious if anyone had a sense of how to divide two weeks.

Happy Trvlr, a second for your advice. Vicenza is such a charming little town and the theater one of the finest pieces of architecture I have seen. If you have 9 days in the area, don't miss it. I personally prefer it to Verona.
