Venice airport anyone?

Has anyone flown into Venice; we took the train last time, but may fly from Zurich this
time. Any thoughts, it will be during Carnival Feb/Mar 2001. Thanks

Good norning, Betty
Did exactly that, landing at Zurich at
0745, departed for Venice at 0840 and
arriving in Venice at 0955, taking a
taxi to our hotel (150,000ITL) was in
the Pza S. Marco only 12 hours after
leaving Chicago, beats the hours spent
on the train from Zur to Venice...
Richard of La Grange Park, Il..

Good morning, again, Betty
Took this trip on the 4th of this month,
but have a variation to which we found
very enjoyable and that is going from
Venice to Lugano, then two nights there
before continuing onto Zurich, have also done it Zurich-Lugano-Venice.
Richard of La Grange Park, Il...

We flew into Venice a few years ago. It is a small airport and you can collect your bags and walk outside where they have municipal boats that will take you to St Marks Square. You do not have to have a private taxi boat. No big deal except getting your bags on and off the boat. It also helps if you know exactly where your hotel is located so that once unloaded in Venice, you know where to go.

Good evening, Betty
Have stayed in Lugano twice in the past
five years and have stayed at the Hotel
Lugano Dante (www.hotel-luganodante.ch/)
was very impressed with this hotel and
my nephew & family stayed there last
year and were also impressed. Excellant Italian ristorante across the
street, the 'SAYANORA" , Lugano also has
a very nice old town area with more shops and ristorantes and the hotel is
at the botton of the funicular from the
RR station in the old town area. Also
there is a casino a couple blocks away.
Richard of La Grange Park, Il...
We just got back from Venice. We flew in and out from there. Easy, but Venice as a city was extremely disappointing. I would recommend no more than spending one night in this dirty and touristy town.

Betty- In spite of Rubidium's opinion, I think the majority of the people who visit Venice enjoy the beauty and history of the city. I've been there twice and felt three days each time was not enough. Sounds like you are getting good information here about the Venice Airport. Have a lovely time.

Hi Betty. Venice airport is the easiest in the world! Here's a web page which explains how to get the boat from the airport to Pza. San Marco: <http://goeurope.tqn.com/travel/goeur...t_boat.htm>. If you follow the first link under "Related Features", you will go to an article about the boat, with a photo and the prices, and on the 2nd page, the schedule from the airport.

We took this boat when we arrived in '98. It's quite a wonderful view as the boat turns up towards the Grand Canal and San Marco! One of my fondest ways of coming into Venice. And I have to agree with Deena - despite Rubidium's opinion, Venice is one of the most beautiful cities on Earth, and is not to be missed. It should be especially fun during Carnival - have a great trip!!

Pick up your bags, walk out of the airport, and right in front of you are the water taxis. Spend the money on a private taxi rather than the "buses" - it should cost 150000 lire($70) - not cheap, but the most romantic way in the world to get to your hotel!
