I think most people would say July is not an ideal time for Venice. It will be crowded and hot. However, since it's crowded, lots of people DO go! It is a very romantic place. See what others say.

Yes!! I was there again last July for my Honeymoon. Stayed close to Piazza San Marco. The night activity was wonderful and the Piazza's strolling musicians and reastaurant bands playing at the outside cafes were great.
Will not stay again at the Bizancio Hotel. Like other hotels, pushed and convinced my husband to take the Murano tour "free" and it turned out to be a nightmare, scary! once the store and the hotel realized (constant phone calls in our presence) we were not buying anything.
I think everybody should go, at least once, to Venice. It is just lovely.

I honeymooned in Venice some years ago, though in April, not July. (In fact, we were married in Venice, had the wedding luncheon there, the whole deal.) My last Venice visit was in late June, and it was already warming up and a bit muggy. If heat bothers you, I'd recommend choosing a hotel that definitely has air conditioning and stopping at lots of cafes for cool drinks and plenty of gelato. You can avoid the crowds simply by walking away from them. There are plenty of areas in Venice that are not crowded, even at high season. And many tour groups are in town only for the day. If your entire trip is to Venice, you could explore the lagoon--think breezy boat rides--since you have enough time for trips to Torcello and further. Also keep in mind mainland escapes close by--Padova, Vicenza, Verona--all an hour or so away by train.

Hi- I am planning a wedding in Venice next year in Oct. and have narrowed my hotele choices down to
andra Palace
( my 1st choice),
hotel Antico Dodge, hotel Violino d'Oro,and the Novecento- you can find them all on karenbrown.com - under both Italy sections.
As to your question about the weather it will be hot-get a/c in your room and go anyway!
Congrats.
