Vegetarians in London

Traveling with my wife and 2 teenage daughters to London in June. They are all vegetarians. They're prepared to eat whatever we can find, but does anyone have suggestions for pubs or restaurants. We'd like at least one nice meal, and I'd like to visit a few pubs with them as well.

London's numerous Indian restaurants will be a great help.

My vegetarian sister-in-law came with us and had a great time. Most menus are marked with dishes suitable for vegetarians, and most restaurants will have some vegetarian selections.

Here's a list of the top 10 Veg restos in London

http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/home_fea...vegetarian.asp

I can't think of many restaurants I've been in there that doesn't offer at least 1 or 2 vegetarian options, even in smaller country towns.

On a couple of my trips to the UK I've traveled once with a vegetarian and once w/ a vegan. Neither had any trouble finding food that met their needs -- everywhere from Pret a Manger sandwich shops, to Indian and Chinese restaurants, to noodle houses, French and Italian places, Spanish/Tapa bars, and several good English restaurants. They will not have any problems . . . . .

I agree with the others that London is a very vegetarian friendly place and your daughteres won't have trouble finding appetizing options.

There are a cluster of vegetarian Indian restaurants on Drummond Street (near Euston Station). Ravi Shankar is my favorite.

Some "vegetarians" I know eat fish, if your family do, you'll find choices in pretty much most restaurants.

Even if not, there are so many great choices in London, you'll not have a problem.

As well as Indian, Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese can be good for vegetarians. There are some wonderful Greek and Turkish restaurants which offer wonderful vegetarian mezzes/ starters such as stuffed aubergines, houmus, yogurt and mint dip, grilled halloumi cheese, cheese pastries etc. Italian restaurants often have many vegetarian pasta and pizza options.

Pub food is variable. Some pubs offer microwaved crap. Others offer good traditional pub fare, home cooked. Others still have gone upmarket (the so-called gastropubs) and offer similar fare to classier restaurants. You'll probably be able to get some clue to the latter from the modern decor but distinguising between the two first types can be harder without recommendations.

Where in London are you staying? Perhaps some of us can offer specific suggestions in convenient locations?

Hi smiroglotta, London is an excellant place for vegetarians to eat. For Indian, I'd recommend Masala Zone (9 Marshall Street, Soho). I think your teenagers would love Red Veg (fast food vegetarian w/hip atmosphere), 95 Dean Street, Soho. Enjoy!
