Vegan Europe

Hi all....I am planning on going to Euroland next year for a few months. The catch is that I am a vegan(no animal products...dairy or eggs included). I assume I will be fine in any large city but what about small villages? If anyone has any thoughts, please share. Thanks a lot.

If animals were not meant to be eaten, then why are they made out of meat?

I'm a vegetarian but not a vegan and I've always done ok in greece since they use olive oil instead of butter and animal fat and such. I think you will have to ask a lot of questions about what you order so I hope you can speak some other languages. Good luck!

I posted a similar question about Frankfurt and it was suggested to me that I look for Thai or Indian food. You might want to do the same- look for cuisines that serve a lot of vegetables or that often use tofu.

It's true that in Greece they mostly use olive oil. However, they are big meat eaters, so your dinner may have to consist of a bunch of side dishes.

I guess I don't understand why you can't bend your rules regarding your diet when you are on a vacation. It certainly won't kill you or poison your system permanently. But if you are going to follow your plan, I suggest you look primarily at the antipasti on the menu. One good thing about the larger cities and good restaurants is that they will have a number of choices, and many of the antipasti tend to be vegetables.

Wayne, what are you suggesting? There are many reasons why Bill may be vegan. If it's for health reasons, then how do you know it won't hurt him permanently to change his diet? If it's for ethical or moral considerations, then should he change his stance just because he's going on vacation? Do you change your ethical views when you go on vacation?
