VAStours from Rome to Pompeii??
DH and I were planning the Pompeii shuttle trip through Enjoy Rome (thereby missing the canned Cameo tour)
However we just found that Enjoy Rome's shuttle runs only Apr.-Oct.
They suggested an alternative through VAS tours which would include a Wood-inlay factory tour and Positano (or was it Sorrento? either would be a treat). Have searched this site for VAS Tours, but I thought I'd ask for any further input folks wish to provide.
TIA,
Koshka

Koshka - If Enjoy Rome's shuttle isn't running, an alternative is the Marozzi shuttle - which runs all year.
Vastours is one of several companies which do Pompei tours from Rome (- Enjoy Rome act as their agents). They all offer essentially the same tour. Here's the link:
http://www.romeguide.it/vastours/
(Tour 13)
IMO they all suffer from the same problem - not enough time at Pompei (- usually only about 2 hours).
They all include a cameo factory visit en route, and you don't get to Pompei till after lunch.
The visit is to Sorrento, not Positano, - but only gives you 30 mins there - barely time for either a coffee or the wood factory visit, let alone time to visit the town.
It's all too rushed IMO - and not cheap at €100 pp.
.........
You can do it independently for half the cost and plan it in a much more leisurely way.
- If you go by train, with an early start you can be at Pompei before 10.00. You could include Sorrento too - it's only 30 mins by train from Pompei.
- If you prefer to go by bus, the MAROZZI Rome-Pompei-Sorrento shuttle service leaves Rome at 07.00(- deps. from outside Tiburtina station), arriving Pompei about 10.00.
The return Marozzi bus leaves Sorrento approx. 18.00, arriving Rome about 21.00.
Fare: approx €35 round trip.

Hope this helps ...

Hi Steve_James,
Thank you for the suggestions. I plan definitely to look into the Marozzi shuttle.
For us, the shuttle is a good compromise between "doing it all ourselves," and a completely canned tour.
Thanks again,
Koshka

Hi Koshka,
A correction to my post above. It seems the Marozzi times I gave you are only valid in the summer, when they have a 7.00a.m departure from Rome.
Their current timetable only has an afternoon departure (15.00) from Rome.
So train is your only option in low season if you want to go independantly.
Sorry I told you wrong
