Yes, I suggest the 72 hour pass for 25 Euros while in Venice. As you exit the train station toward the vaporettos you'll see a place that sells them.

If you buy the pass, you only have to stand in the line to purchase tickets once! The line at our stop was always long. Skipping the first line made having a pass just that much better!

We decided that the longer passes wouldn't be worth the money because many times it was quicker to walk. Venice is a relatively small place, almost tiny, and absolutely charming for walking. Often we were going several places on the way to our ultimate destination or the distance to vaporetto stops was almost as far as the walk. While you might want to take a vaporetto just for the ambiance (not that we found jamming onto a crowded boat all that wonderful), I doubt it would save you a lot of time. We did get a 24 hr. pass for Murano and Burano and we took the "cheap tour" (vaporetto along the canal with Eyewitness Venice) the next morning before the time was up. (Couldn't see all that well, however.)
