Van Gogh Museum from February to June

If you are planning to visit the Van Gogh museum somewhere between 13 February and 7 June please look at the website - you will need to buy special, timed entry tickets due to the special exhibition taking place then.

Thanks for the info Hetismij and for all your other helpful replies as well. We are planning to buy a museum card. I tried to look for a way to just buy the supplemental ticket online, but it doesn't seem like you can. Will we just have to buy the special exhibition tickets at the museum after we arrive? Any thoughts you have would be appreciated. Thanks. Also, does the museum card allow you to skip the lines at both the Rijks and the Van Gogh (it seems like I read that you still had to wait in line at one of the two.) Thanks for your help!

Thanks.... we will be in AMS June 11-16 so it looks like we won't need the special tickets then.

wanderfar if you have the museum card you can buy a supplemental ticket at the VVV in Amsterdam. Assuming of course that there are still tickets available for that day - the idea of timed entry tickets is to spread the load throughout the day, and limit in the numbers to a certain extent so every one can enjoy the exhibition.
Yes with the museum card you can skip the lines.
It is really only worth getting the museum card though if you are visiting a lot of museums covered by it, or are planning on returning within the year. Otherwise just buy your tickets online.

Thanks hetismij. We are going to be in Amsterdam for several days and are definitely planning on buying a museum card as we will also be going to Den Hague and Haarlem to visit some of the museums there as well. I'm guessing the special exhibits often sell out. We were planning to go to the museum on either Friday or Saturday evening in March to take advantage of the later opening time. Maybe we should just buy the tickets in advance even though we will also have the museum card? Thanks again for your help.

I just checked the website - you can order the reduced rate tickets online too. But you have to use the Dutch site which is weird.

Click on the Online tickets button then choose the date you want to go - then click on the date in that screen. Choose the time you want to go and click on the Museumjaarkaart section with the number of tickets you need, then on winkelwagen.

Choose Ticketdirect and you can print out your tickets at home.

You will need to click on nieuwe klant to fill in your details.
Aanhef means title (so Mr, Mrs. Lord Lady ) then forename, surname,
business (not needed), street and house number, zipcode, town, country, email address, username and a password.

I haven't gone further than that but I imagine one of the options after that is for Crditcard and should be fairly clear. It will probably need the 3 digit security code from the back of your card as well as the number.

Good Luck!

Hetismij or anyone else - do you know if you can buy the regular museum cards online? I've looked around but couldn't find anything. Hetismij-thanks again for your help in figuring out how to buy the special exhibition tickets for the Van Gogh museum. I'm planning to buy soon and will post back if I have any trouble or learn anything that would be helpful to others. Thanks again!

No, as far as I know, if you live outside the Netherlands you have to buy the museumkaart at a participating museum.
You could try contacting the organisation to find out for certain.
http://tinyurl.com/csqmdn is the contact form. It is in Dutch. Ignore everything except the boxes marked email (fill in your email address) and bericht, where you can type your question.
