Valle d'Aosta in April or May?
We are think of planning a trip to this area in the spring.
We will not ski (alas), but wonder if there still might be snow on the mountains that late in the season.
Any suggestions or any information about this beautiful area would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Byrd

We were in Aosta in midMay one year and I didn't see anything even vaguely resembling snow until we were through the tunnel into France and visited Chamonix - there was still snow on Mt Blanc.
The highlight of Aosta (we really went for the roman ruins and a sort of random stop on a road trip) was a demolition derby that pulled fans from many miles around.

On the other hand, we spent 4 nights in Aosta from 1st June 2008 and there was certainly snow to be seen on the high peaks. I'm sure there will be some snow through April-May. You can see proof in these photos we took while there. http://picasaweb.google.com/GregYeam...eat=directlink By the way, the Alpine Museum at Bard, not far away is highly recommended - by me at least.

Thank you all for your comments.
Greg, your pictures are beautiful!
I have e-mailed some hotels in the Courmayeur area, but haven't heard frm them yet.
We are interested in the cable car rides and, of course, the mountain scenery.
We were skiers for many years, and now are feeling the need for a "mountain fix."
Thank you again for your help!
