Valencia vs. Barcelona
Planning our (parents and 6 year old) trip to southern Spain for mid-March: looking for input on deciding between Valencia and Barcelona to spend a week - pros and cons for each
city? Thanks...would need to travel from Madrid by either rental car or train - again, any suggestions between the two options? Tom

For several days Barcelona
For a day or two a toss-up
I loved Valencia - an old-world old town centre but the city itself for me would be boring for several days - not so Barcelona - that said Valencia has a great beach that a 6 yr old may love and so does Barcelona.
Valencia is Spanish - Barcelona Catalonia - don't tell Barcelonans they live in 'southern Spain'

Valencia mid march.. fallas festival unique in the world.
www.fallas.com or google "fallas"
Europe's supposedly best acquarium http://www.cac.es/oceanografic/?languageId=1
nice walkable old town
easy to manage..not as cosmopolitan as Barcelona but PLENTY of museums for all ages
the bio park zoo is really nice, too.
http://www.bioparcvalencia.es/cas/
as is a bike ride in the many km long riverbed
Barcelona is well.. Barcleona, a very unique city.
They are very different.. and merit attention.. I am sure you will enjoy both. They are both doable in a week. Well connected by train between them and Madrid.
Why not do the triangle I often suggest?

Hi Tom,
It largely depends on how much time you plan in either one of the cities. For example, if you only have 2-3 days then I would recommend Valencia as it much smaller and there isn´t as many things to do like Barcelona.
How 4 days or more then I would recommend Barcelona as there is just so much to see and do there. Especially for a 6 year as well with the zoo, Comsmocaixa musuem, Port Aventura which isn't too far from Barcelona, aquarium etc.
Also coming from Madrid I would personally recommend flying sa it is very easy and quick. If you would like to look into this than vueling would be your best option.
Enjoy your time in Spain.
